國道3號新化路段這起車禍，發生於下午2點50分左右，在南下349.6公里附近，警方調查，遭撞擊的是郭姓男子，50年次，當時正進行路面施工。
國道八隊善化分隊指出，現場封鎖外側車道，進行鋪柏油後的畫標線，以及反光貓眼裝設等工程，郭男在擺放三角錐的封鎖區內，1部大型車輛涉嫌越界，造成擦撞。
郭男被撞擊後，當場倒地，血流如注，雖緊急送醫，仍因傷勢嚴重，到院前死亡，善化分隊根據現場其他工人的線索，並循線調閱監視器畫面，已鎖定涉嫌肇事逃逸的車輛，正在追緝中，釐清案情。
