文化局表示，「迎春禮」是清領時期台灣府城重要的傳統禮俗活動，經過日治至戰後，此項傳統古禮中斷多年後，去年首度復辦。今年「迎春禮」，歲次為戊戌年，按照天干地支五行，東門城中的春牛換妝為黃色牛頭牛身、青色腹脛以及紅色的角耳尾蹄；而芒神容貌則按年分地支為童子容貌、白衣紅腰帶且未穿鞋。過去農業社會以芒神裝束作為該年的天氣預測，而今年芒神沒有穿鞋，象徵今年可能雨水多。
昨天的「迎春禮」踩街活動，包括大橋國小牛犁歌陣、子龍國小宋江陣、麻豆區南勢里保安宮十二婆姐陣及泰山民俗技藝團高蹺陣等在地藝陣共襄盛舉，十分熱鬧，沿途吸引不少民眾圍觀。
