被撞傷的是一名40歲的蔡姓員警，當時林姓嫌犯因為闖紅燈，遭到新興分局中山路派出所副所長攔查，男子趁著警方還在查證資料，就急著上車，不顧後方有員警突然加油，先倒車撞到蔡姓員警機車後逃逸，員警倒地後，開槍一槍反制，但還是讓他脫逃。幸好員警送醫，只有左手挫傷，沒有大礙。

事後，透過警網追緝，一個小時後，晚間8點多，在前鎮區草衙地區，先找到撞警的轎車，再逮捕到22歲涉嫌拒檢撞警的林姓嫌犯，員警並在他車上搜出毒品，目前一併帶回偵辦。
