員警詢問後，這名獨居大溪區的陳姓阿公喃喃自語表示，想去中壢找孫子，卻又不知兒子的聯絡方式，才會想沿著台66線橋下，以步行的方式走到中壢，只是走了10公里到平鎮區時，雙腳腫脹已無法再行走，且又冷又餓，才會在橋墩下休息。
員警將他帶回派出所安置，提供熱食及茶水，並利用人臉辨識系統找到他的住處，再聯絡到陳姓阿公的兒子前來派出所接人；陳翁的兒子說，父親一人獨居在大溪，本來約好今天會和家人回大溪探望父親，可能是父親太想念孫子，才會在下雨天出門，還好員警發現得早，平安結束這場探孫迷途記。
