內政部長徐國勇昨天到桃園市蘆竹區義美食品工廠，參加「關懷移工．守護權益」活動，他在活動中宣布，移民署即起將外僑居留證上的居留事由更名為「移工」，不再稱「外勞」，以回應社會對移工的支持與尊重。
勞動部統計，全台灣的移工人數超過70萬人，桃園市有11萬餘人為全台最多，義美食品工廠聘用超過4百位移工。總經理高志明表示，公司內部從未稱呼移工為外勞，而是稱他們為「外籍同仁」，就是要表達對移工努力工作的尊重。徐國勇表示，希望義美在海外直接聘用移工、讓移工可省下一大筆仲介費的好經驗，也能推廣到其他企業。
