八德分局四維派出所發布新聞稿表示，警方在10日夜間接獲民眾報案指出，有隻牛在敲家中大門盼警方協助處理，員警前往查看發現，民宅附近地面泥濘，還疑似有牛隻腳印，屋主表示夜間聽到敲門聲下樓查看，卻發現是頭牛正在撞擊家裡大門，才會趕緊報警。
由於沒看見牛隻，承辦員警潘則為、高慶賢及張秉閎研判這頭牛可能還在附近遊蕩，3人便沿著地面泥土以步行加巡邏車方式搜索，果然在離事發地200公尺外的道路上，發現「蹺家牛」，同時也從其他派出所方面了解，原來這頭牛「前科累累」，趕緊聯絡飼主。
潘則為指出，飼主說牛隻平常就養在附近田埂，也會綁上繩索不會亂跑，懷疑是繩索鬆脫才會在馬路上閒晃，雖然人在外地無法到場處理，但飼主也告訴警方，這頭牛會認路，央請警方護送牠回家，為避免用路人危險也擔心牛隻遭撞，人民保母只好化身牧牛人陪牛兒回家，才結束一場「牛隻蹺家記」。
