新莊分局泰山分駐所於18日下午5時許獲報，泰山區中港西路上前有民眾需要協助，員警到場後，報案人表示看到老翁一直坐在路邊良久，深怕有意外發生，因此趕緊報請警方協助。
唐明福、林威2位員警隨即上前關懷，但只見老翁不斷喃喃自語，對員警詢問無法回應，所幸過程中唐員眼尖發現，老翁似為其勤區內的一名63歲黃姓長者，家就住在泰山區和平街附近，唐、林2人便駕駛巡邏車護送老翁返家。
家人表示，黃翁是趁不注意時獨自外出迷途，家屬表示會多留意長輩狀況，對警方的熱心協助，也一再表達感謝之意。
警方呼籲，家中長者若有失智之情形，應避免讓其單獨外出，平常應多注意、關心其動向，亦可在隨身之衣物繡上姓名、聯繫電話等資料，或配戴足資辨識之項鍊、手鍊，以防走失後，還能提供警方或相關單位的辨識，進而可儘速聯絡家屬。
