台灣鐵路管理局24日晚間緊急發佈消息， 苗栗通宵站－苑裡站；苑裡站－白沙屯站，晚間7時26分時發生電車線斷落沒電，導致南下、北上列車都發生延宕情況，現在已經派遣人員前往搶修，目前新埔與苑裡間啟動公路接駁疏運旅客，詳細情況待後續更新。
根據了解，彰化開往竹北區間車24日下午5時29分，發現通霄站－新埔站之間有集電弓故障，原本經維修後已在5時57分恢復通電行車，不過晚間6時40分又發現通霄與苑裡間電車線沒電，經由人員前往確認才發現是電車線斷落。
目前從24日下午17:50開始至20:12列車班次都有延誤，新埔與苑裡間也已啟動公路接駁疏運旅客，詳細情況待後續更新。
