台中市消防局表示，今天上午6時許接獲民眾報案，表示國道四號8.4Ｋ下方涵洞內有一輛車子起火燒，消防局立刻調派神岡分隊前往搶救，火勢撲滅後，發現駕駛座躺著一名男子，已全身焦黑明顯死亡，消防局立即通知火場鑑識人員前往外，並通知轄區警方調查。

豐原分局神岡分駐所獲報後，經調閱車籍資料後，確認死者為73歲廖姓老翁，車子為老翁妻子所有，廖翁家屬向警方表示，老翁因罹癌及患有心律不整等毛病，身體狀況不好，導致心情不佳，之前即曾有自殺念頭，最近才剛從醫院出院，今天上午老翁才說要出門運動，沒想到竟會發生火燒車意外。

警方不排除廖翁是因病尋短，目前除了將廖翁家屬帶回派出所製作筆錄外，並通報檢方相驗，詳細死因仍有待釐清。
