現場遺留26個彈殼，還有一個裝有子彈的彈匣，似乎早就有預謀，過程中還波及一對用餐的夫妻，所幸送醫後都沒有生命危險。

案發後，歹徒先到4公里外的清水第一公墓放火燒車，隨後又在苗栗後龍山區，燒毀第二輛車，企圖製造警方追查的斷點。

不過警方根據嫌犯租車資料，查出主嫌疑是一名有詐欺前科的陳姓嫌犯，他分別到高雄岡山以及彰化，租了這兩輛汽車。

警方調查，30歲的史姓死者，曾遠到歐洲葡萄牙設機房詐騙，被遣送回國後判刑6年，目前還在上訴。由於陳姓嫌犯和死者都是詐騙前科，歹徒作案過程也都沒有蒙面或遮掩，而且以行刑方式狂掃20槍，背後是否有集團指使，殺人之外到底還有什麼意圖？警方正全力展開追緝。
