南投縣風景區重要交通門戶台16線水里路段，因省道橋梁中山橋過於老舊而重建，工程單位為減少交通衝擊，採取分段施工，先拆除一半橋體重建，之後再完成另一半，並增設鋼便橋維持橋梁疏運功能，只是近來卻頻傳橋面破損坑洞，引起用路人關注。
對此，公路總局信義工務段表示，夏季天氣炎熱，鋼便橋上的柏油鋪面容易軟化，加上砂石車通行頻繁，而橋面兩旁也未設置邊框，以致柏油不耐重車擠壓而變形，才會出現破損或標線位移，但並不影響橋體安全，惟砂石車掉落的碎石可能對騎士造成影響，近日將修復鋪面，並加強橋面維護，以維行車安全。
