南投縣竹山鎮中坑路一處民宅今天凌晨零點十分發生火災，屋主來不及逃出，不幸葬身火場，起火原因由火災鑑識人員調查。
南投縣消防局第三大隊竹山分隊接獲派遣後，立即出動消防人車前往搶救，並群呼義消支援，由於現場缺乏水源，指揮中心同時加派鹿谷、名間分隊消防車支援，救災人員前往現場途中就看到遠處紅色火光照亮天際及大量濃煙竄升。
消防人員在零點十九分抵達現場，起火建築物為二樓鐵皮建築，火勢猛烈，已全面燃燒，詢問鄰居表示並沒有看到屋主逃出。此時，鐵皮屋二樓木質地板已燒穿坍塌，屋內堆滿雜物也助長火勢並影響逃生動線，消防人員不敢貿然進入搶救，立即佈署多條水線先由屋外射水滅火降溫，在火勢轉小之後派人入室搜救，搜救人員在大門內五公尺處，尋獲五十八歲王姓屋主，不過已經死亡。火勢在零點三十分控制，這次民宅火災造成一人死亡，建築物全毀。
