風景優美的宜蘭縣壯圍鄉永鎮海邊，3日驚見一隻瀕臨絕種的抹香鯨擱淺死亡，縣政府及中華鯨豚協會人員到場瞭解後，一時無法確認死亡原因，隨後載往台北市立動物園進行解剖及研究。
這隻抹香鯨體長約4.5公尺，是一隻幼鯨，3日一早就被發現在淺灘處隨浪漂移，海巡人員據報趕到現場，先用繩索固定以免被海浪沖往外海，並通報縣政府農業處人員到場做進一步處理。
宜蘭縣政府人員協同海洋委員會海洋保育署委託的中華鯨豚協會專家到場瞭解後，動用重機具將牠吊掛上車，交由中華鯨豚協會載往台北市動物園進行解剖。
抹香鯨成鯨體長約11至18公尺，體重為20,000至50,000公斤。這次被發現的幼鯨，身長不到5公尺，死亡原因仍待解剖及研究。
