蘇澳警分局4組組長林俊宇說，蘇花公路全線速限40公里，常見駕駛搶快違規跨越雙黃線超車，這也是最常見的車禍主因。
蘇花公路可超車路段不多，從蘇澳至崇德段僅南澳市區、和平路段為4線車道；林俊宇說，若大車載重車速慢，沿線設有避車彎，大車應在此停靠，優先禮讓後方車輛通過，若遇「慢速車」，該路段又禁止超車。
至於機車、單車為躲開車陣，常出現「鑽車」情況，林俊宇提醒，大型車有視線死角，兩側行駛過程也會有氣旋產生，易讓騎士捲入輪下；若要超車建議選在空曠、能看清對向來車路段，切忌跨入對向超車，才能平安返家。
