［記者張存薇／台東報導］第5屆原住民族語單詞競賽台東縣初賽今天一早開戰，今年共有30所國中小、34隊報名參加，包括6個族群7種方言別，因為在眾目睽睽之下要大聲說出母語、還有時間限制，現場氣氛超緊張。
縣長饒慶鈴在開賽前，先頒發族語講師聘書給各族群老師，她說，現在幾乎都是講國語，而為了競爭力，學生還要學英語，再加上母語學習，十分辛苦，但「語言是學習的武器，多一種語言就多一種能力」，希望大家透過遊戲方式多練習母語，也能傳承文化。
這次比賽包括馬蘭阿美語、海岸阿美語、南王卑南語、東魯凱語、東排灣語、郡群布農語、雅美族語等，選手必須看圖片講出單詞或拼出族語拼音，2所學校捉對廝殺，看誰積分最高就勝出，國中、國小組前2名將代表台東參加6月初在台北的全國決賽。
