公路總局第四區養護工程處指出，主要坍方集中在和仁段一六八到一六九公里處，合計坍方七處，土石方數量約一萬七千多立方米。公路局於十四日晚九點半先搶通單線以疏散受困人車，晚間近十一點鐘完成全部受困人車的疏散之後，封閉坍方路段道路，在工程人員徹夜搶修下，昨早上七點搶通，恢復雙向通車。
由於擔心近日還可能有致災強降雨，已預置搶災機具與人力於蘇花公路沿線。
此次坍方的和中至大清水段，已列入蘇花改施工路段。蘇花改工程處指出，蘇花改C段和中到大清水計畫路線北起花蓮縣秀林鄉和中社區北側，預計明年底完工。
