［記者王峻祺／花蓮報導］花蓮雲門翠堤大樓因地震倒塌，目前仍有14至16人失聯，花蓮縣建築師公會、技師公會相繼到場勘查，利用紅外線偵測系統，經過一個小時的偵測後，發現建築體並無繼續傾斜現象，初判倒塌原因，可能因大樓結構體設計上為單邊騎樓，又剛好碰到斷層帶，才會導致攻擊到最弱的地方，加上重量壓制，造成建築物傾斜倒塌。
花蓮縣建築師公會理事長劉燕湖說，雲門翠堤大樓經勘查後，發現4樓以上結構體完整，並沒有任何裂縫，但就是因單邊為騎樓關係，在地震發生時碰到斷層帶，才會造成B1、1樓及2樓壓在下層。
花蓮縣消防局救災救護第一大隊長朱哲民說，雲門翠堤大樓總計10層樓，地下1層建築物，其中正面1至4樓塌陷，事發後陸續搜救出多名住戶，包含住宿旅客仍待身份確認等，目前各縣市救難人員已陸續抵達，將分批救援，進行全面性清查。
