8月8日父親節當天，新北市三重分局大有所夫妻檔警員潘宗麟、黃讚品，休假欲至蘆洲區餐廳慶祝父親節，行經民族路時，發現謝姓男子（43歲）與轄內竊盜案犯嫌特徵相符，隨即將謝男攔下，當場查獲涉嫌騎乘1部贓車，並循線破獲多起機車及車內財物竊盜案。
警方調查，謝男因無業且無交通工具，7月下旬起涉嫌在三重地區接連竊取5部機車，作為交通工具所用；另外因菸癮犯了卻沒錢買菸抽，在三重區三民街也涉嫌竊取機車掛勾上放置的兩條香菸，警方訊後依竊盜罪嫌將謝男移送偵辦。
警員潘宗麟因協助偵辦案件，長時間調閱監視器，對謝男的特徵印象深刻，不論上、下班都特別注意路上騎士或路人，是否有符合犯嫌之特徵；果然在本月8日休假時，欲與妻子黃讚品慶祝父親節時，在蘆洲地區發現謝男騎車停於身旁，立即與黃妻攔下謝男，經查他騎乘的正是贓車，隨即將謝男逮捕，一舉破獲多起竊案，讓潘宗麟直呼「這是父親節最好的禮物」。
