一名55歲的黃姓駕駛，30日清晨5點多開著35噸重的聯結車，行經國道3號通霄路段北側爬坡時，遭到後方蘇姓男子開的大貨車追撞上去，造成蘇全身多處骨折、顱內出血昏迷，還在醫院急救，警方初步調查，疑似是大貨車沒保持距離，但是聯結車有超重，依法開罰罰金約16萬5千元。
黃姓駕駛的聯結車載著煤炭，30日清晨5點多從通霄交流道上國道，要載往新竹湖口工業區，在北上142.7公里處爬坡路段時，正準備從外側車道加速速度緩慢，卻遭到大貨車從後方撞上，小貨車車頭凹陷變形，蘇姓駕駛一度被卡在車內，被警消救出後，全身多處骨折、胸部挫傷、顱內出血昏迷，有生命危險仍在醫院急救。
警方初步調查，雙方都沒有酒駕，從現場勘驗發現大貨車沒有煞車痕跡，疑似是蘇姓駕駛沒有保持安全距離撞上，黃姓駕駛供稱，當初時速不到60公里，聯結車拖回國道後龍分隊過磅，卻發現磅總重68公噸， 已經嚴重超載，超過了33噸，因此將依法開單告發，罰金約16萬5千元。
