前幾年，因為「豐香」品種抗病力弱不易栽種，因此紛紛改種高產量的「香水」草莓，卻因口感不佳回購率下降，加上台灣冬天越來越熱，夏天常下雨，草莓越來越不好種。苗栗農改場研發以「豐香」為母體，改良出新品種「戀香」。
檢視相片苗栗農改場助理研究員吳岱融說：「『戀香』比『豐香』更好育苗，走蔓繁殖倍率是豐香的1.4倍，糖度顯著比豐香高，「戀香」是目前台灣主流流通的草莓品種，最甜的品種。」「戀香」草莓，糖度最高可達16度以上，比日本的甜，更大、更好種，農民躍躍欲試。
大湖莓農表示，「豐香草莓已經淘汰了，沒有抗病性，所以育苗也不好醫，現在有新品種，當然我們要來嘗試一下，期待這個新的戀香，帶給農民成本比較少，比較好照顧，產量多一點。」
「戀香」好處多多，有了農會輔導，農民技術又好，夢幻品種預計年底上市。
