有意爭取國民黨總統提名的前台北縣長周錫瑋，13日到日本交流協會台北事務所前抗議，為了捍衛釣魚台主權、幫慰安婦奶奶討公道、反對核災食品進口，周錫瑋用日語髒話飆罵「日本人混蛋，你們欺負台灣人」，並要求日本天皇應該下跪道歉，稱「第二次抗日戰爭從今天開始」。

有網友在臉書發現，周錫瑋去年在日本大阪道頓堀打卡，擺出固力果跑跑先生的姿勢，還大啖日本料理。周錫瑋說，「很奇妙！旅行總會讓心境轉換，尤其是與家人一同前往，整個神清氣爽了起來！在旅行過程中，我觀察了許多日本的優點，之後再慢慢將心得分享給大家知道！」，時隔一年，周錫瑋宣布「向日本宣戰」，遭質疑，當初怎麼赴日旅遊，而非探查敵情？有網友留言酸，「去日本玩的時候怎麼沒有想到釣魚台阿？」
