這隻穿山甲被發現時健康狀況良好，全身的鱗片沾滿黃土落葉，民眾當時在蘆竹區中山路與南祥路口發現牠的蹤影，很可能是是五酒桶山一路下山而誤入市區，還好及時被熱心民眾發現，沒有發生意外，蘆竹區五酒桶山位於山鼻里及內厝里的山陵地帶，羊稠森林步道裡本就有多種珍稀動物，其中也包括穿山甲。

台北木柵動物園的資料顯示，台灣穿山甲的保育等級是「極危」，穿山甲由於身被鱗甲，並具掘土穴的習性而得此名，明代李時珍《本草綱目》即記載：「其形肖鯉，穴陵而居，故曰鯪鯉，俗稱為穿山甲。」當牠們遇到危險時的立即反應是將身體捲成球狀，用尾巴保護脆弱的頸部及腹部，同時，鱗片會直豎起來露出銳利的邊緣，以更有效地禦敵，讓敵人知難而退。
