中山高國一北上38.5公里一處下坡，2日凌晨5時許，周姓駕駛1個人開著貨車載著大型變壓器經過此路段，在下坡處為了減速頻踩煞車，被一旁小客車發現告知駕駛車體冒煙，周姓駕駛後馬上停靠路肩，並下車打電話報請消防人員處理，不料在消防隊趕到現場前，輪胎處就冒出火煙燒了起來，所幸消防隊及時趕到現場，拉出水線灌救，火勢很快就被撲滅，所幸整起火災並無造成任何傷亡。
周姓駕駛表示，這批貨是從湖口要載往蘇澳，並不了解為什麼會起火，被一旁路過的小客車駕駛告知之後，就趕緊停到路肩跳下車，警消表示，雖然火勢已撲滅，但由於火勢有燒到車體，需灑水降溫，以免燒到油箱引發更嚴重的災情，而詳細火災發生原因還有待調查。
