〔記者劉濱銓／南投報導〕規劃近10年，連接南投集集鎮鬧區至外環道省道台16線的中集路延伸案，去年暑假開工後，原訂本月啟用，但因道路延伸穿越台鐵集集支線鐵軌，以致工程延宕，公所表示，整體工程恐要到6月中才通車，若之後進度順利，盼趕在暑假旅遊旺季前開通，及時紓解每到假日就壅塞的市區交通。
集集鎮知名景點集集火車站，假日常吸引遊客前來旅遊，惟市區道路狹小，往來車流多靠聯外道路集鹿路進出省道台16線，加上路口又有號誌增加停等時間，以致假日交通容易壅塞。
公所表示，地方滿心期待能多1條道路解決塞車問題，惟今年以來，卻因道路延伸工程穿越鐵路，以致工程延宕2個月，近期才加緊施工，道路工程預計要到5月下旬才完成，之後將由公所接手路燈、綠美化作業，若進度順利，盼能趕在暑假前開通。
