台中市台74線西屯段北上10.7公里處，7日凌晨4點多發生一起BMW雙門跑車突然自燃，警消抵達現場時，車子已經燒成廢鐵，不過車內車外都沒有看到人，警消事後在附近找到葉姓駕駛，葉姓駕駛表示，「車是和朋友借的，引擎蓋突然冒煙燃燒。」起火原因還要再進一步釐清。
該輛BMW雙門跑車凌晨4點10分左右，突然在台74線西屯段北上10.7公里處路肩起火燃燒，警消獲報到場將火勢撲滅，不過卻沒有在車內及車外發現駕駛身影，但車子已經燒成廢鐵，車內也是焦黑一片，警方初步調查，該車為BMW 335i ，2009年出廠，新車價格約為350萬元。
西屯警方後在附近找到88年次的葉姓駕駛，酒測值是0，葉姓駕駛表示，「當時載著黃姓友人要從彰化開往台中出遊，行經西屯區時車子引擎卻突然冒煙，停到路邊就開始燃燒，車子是和朋友借來的。」2人供稱有試圖滅火，之後棄車離開，都沒有受傷，警方也要進一步調查，並由鑑識小組調查詳細的起火原因。
