警消獲報趕抵，確認林翁已明顯死亡，並未送醫，警方以遺留在現場的機車確認林翁身分，通知住新北市新莊區的家屬到案認屍，全案朝業務過失致死罪嫌偵辦，並調查是否有工安疏失。
